Industry Professor Colin Hall

University of South Australia Lead

Industry Professor Colin Hall is a distinguished materials scientist with a combined 27 years in academia and private industry and has delivered collaborative projects worth over $10 million within the past seven years. His research focus is on identifying new materials and enhancing current material uses, specialising in additive manufacturing and coatings for industry partners operating in aerospace, automotive, mining, agriculture and medical.

Professor Hall is at the Future Industries Institute (University of South Australia), and is a key researcher for iLAuNCH as an expert in thin film coatings and wear-resistant structures and coatings for extreme conditions.

As the South Australian node leader for iLAuNCH operations, Professor Hall is responsible for project management and SA-based education delivery. The SA node will focus on the commercialisation of additive manufacture, optical coatings and combining the two technologies for bespoke space applications. Over the next four years it will bring in new manufacturers and expand existing activities to grow the space engineering ecosystem.
