Professor Andrew Smith

Director, iLAuNCH Trailblazer

Professor Smith has an esteemed research career, holding significant research leadership roles at the University of Sussex, RMIT and Griffith University. Most recently, Professor Smith was the PVC Science at Griffith University (2016- 2022). Professor Smith has extensive experience working with industry and has a demonstrated track record in research translation. He has significant experience in leading research strategy as well as leading major research consortia both nationally and internationally. Most notably, Professor Smith worked extensively with Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and Novozymes and in several large EU consortia, including ‘Biorenew’, where he was project leader for ‘Tailoring Enzyme Activities’. He has enjoyed wide ranging collaborations with a number of leading European research groups and has six patents, including three international filings.

As Director (iLAuNCH), over the next six months Professor Smith will be focused on leading the next phase of the iLAuNCH strategy to drive long-term growth, partnerships and program sustainability. He looks forward to working with you as key stakeholders on the development of strategies that attract new major research and development opportunities and partnerships for the ilAuNCH program.
