A new model of engagement

iLAuNCH is delivering a step-change in the way research and industry collaborate on translating research outcomes into commercial products through focussed sector specific commercialisation support.

The commercialisation model supports key industry partners from project design, to project management and market entry. This suite of large research commercialisation projects will be complemented by a flexible model of engagement and support of the wider space industry ecosystem. This provides the Australian space industry sector maximum opportunity to engage with iLAuNCH and to obtain support in addressing product specific commercialisation challenges.

The University of Southern Queensland’s Institute for Advanced Engineering and Space Sciences is renowned for its research to deliver cutting-edge technologies, industry solutions and knowledge at the forefront of discovery, with world-class facilities including the Mount Kent Observatory in a dark-sky site, just outside of Toowoomba. It is the strategic location of UniSQs rocket laboratory, static rocket testing facility and long duration hypersonic wind tunnel, and one of Australia’s largest dedicated composite materials manufacturing and testing facilities.

InSpace connects ANU Space research with society’s biggest challenges to deliver positive impact. We do this by shaping and growing the Australian space ecosystem in partnership with Industry, Government, and Communities.

The depth and breadth of space research at ANU includes space communication, exploration, building sovereign capability, and translating space innovation back to Earth. InSpace combines those disciplines with space law, economics, medicine, the humanities along with world-class space capabilities which are part of the National Space Qualification Network (NSQN) facilities, to create strong, sustainable, holistic outcomes for Australia’s advanced manufacturing sector.

Adelaide University is the new research-intensive university formed in January 2026 through the merger of the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide. It brings together exceptional research capability, world-class facilities, and deep industry partnerships to drive innovation, economic impact and societal benefit across Australia and globally.

Adelaide University’s extensive research infrastructure spans multiple campuses, including the Mawson Lakes STEM-focused precinct adjacent to Technology Park, and a strong footprint in defence, space and advanced manufacturing research. Its institutes and labs support work in additive manufacturing, coatings, optics, micro and nanofabrication, laser and photonics systems, communications (including signal processing and sensor systems) and other major technological fields, building on the strengths of both founding institutions. Collaborative research also includes defence and security, sustainability, health, agriculture and data sciences.

Adelaide University maintains close links with high-tech industry partners, including those located within and around Technology Park and Lot Fourteen, and fosters innovation through partnerships, translational research programs and opportunities for industry-embedded student learning. It continues to extend space-related research and development, offering collaborative R&D, training programs and infrastructure access to help grow capability in the space sector.

The Trailblazer Universities Program includes the opportunity for participating universities to partner with Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, to access specialist equipment and expertise to support the delivery of their projects.

CSIRO also delivers a free innovation program for researchers in conjunction with UniSQ. ON Prime is designed to help research teams of two to five people take their projects to the next level through customer discovery activities and more.

The CSIRO x UniSQ iLAuNCH ON Prime program is specifically tailored for research teams working on technology or research with an application in the space sector. Find out more.
