One Giant Leap Australia Foundation brings Global Space Challenge to Queensland
MEDIA RELEASE from One Giant Leap Australia Foundation
One Giant Leap Australia Foundation is heading to Queensland with the Global Space Challenge, a virtual space mission for Year 7 & 8 students.
The program is part of Space Teams Academy, which was designed and developed by former NASA Astronaut, Dr Gregory Chamitoff.
Thanks to the support from the Department of Industry Science and Resources, Queensland Government and iLAuNCH, sponsorship for 32 lucky students from Queensland is available to allow them to participate in this exciting adventure!
The young astronauts will be able to apply what they learn within the simulations to design a mission to another planet within our solar system. Daily mission training will include a one-hour live tutorial with an expert on the day’s topic. Guidance will be given on how to complete the corresponding simulation activity.
“This is the STEM version of professional mission software and is recognised by NASA. Students learn very quickly and teamwork is critical to their mission success”, said Jackie Carpenter, Director of One Giant Leap Australia.
Program creator and former NASA astronaut, Dr Gregory Chamitoff will be speaking directly to the participants via video link and also available for media interviews during the program.
The Global Space Challenge is a 6-day program and is open to explorers ages 12 and up. The ideal team size is 2-4 students, although more could be on the same team. Explorers can register and select their own teams or be placed on a team automatically.
To be eligible for the scholarship, participants must be a Queensland school student enrolled in an education institution or home schooling for Year 7 or Year 8.
Mission team members are required to attend the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba for 6 days from 25th to 30th September, 2023.
All entries will be judged on creativity and originality. To find out more visit: https://onegiantleapfoundation.com.au/global-space-challenge-scholarship/
